Archival pen on 425gsm Saunders Waterford paper
A2 Portrait — 42 × 59.4 cm / 16.5 × 23.4 inches
Original artwork — one of one
Created in response to the vibrant reefs surrounding Bermuda, Camo Coral explores the extraordinary relationship between coral ecosystems and the creatures that inhabit them.
The work was inspired by the dazzling colours and patterns found in tropical reef fish, particularly the way their fins and markings help them blend seamlessly into their surroundings. Moving through the reef, these fish become part of a constantly shifting tapestry of colour, light, and motion, where the boundary between animal and environment is often difficult to distinguish.
Built from thousands of drawn lines, the composition flows like ocean currents weaving through coral formations. Layers of vivid colour intersect and ripple across the surface, creating moments where forms appear to emerge before dissolving back into the whole. Bright pinks, blues, greens, and oranges reflect memories of the reef's rich biodiversity and the ever-changing light beneath the water's surface.
Rather than depicting a specific species or location, Camo Coral is an abstract interpretation of nature's ability to conceal, adapt, and transform—capturing the energy and complexity of life within the reef.
