Iridescent Hour explores the fleeting colours of the sky as the warmth of sunset gives way to the deepening tones of twilight. Continuing the exploration of light, colour and transition within the series, the work moves away from the surface of water and towards the atmosphere of the sky itself.
Drawn lines in vivid, contrasting colours move across the paper, their density and proximity creating an optical mixing in which colours appear to merge, shift and transform. Yellows, reds, pinks, blues and violets interact to create the luminous warmth associated with golden hour, without the use of gold itself. The resulting colours possess an almost iridescent quality, changing subtly through their relationship with the colours surrounding them.
Rather than depicting a particular sunset or landscape, the work seeks to capture the sensation of that brief interval when daylight is fading but its warmth remains suspended in the sky. It is a study of colour as something fluid and perceptual — a moment when individual lines dissolve into a collective impression of light.
