Lightfall is inspired by the moment sunlight breaks through a dense covering of cloud, transforming the atmosphere with a sudden sense of warmth and illumination. The edges of the clouds begin to glow as rays of light emerge through openings in the sky, falling onto the landscape below.
Through layers of repeated, flowing lines, the work translates this fleeting atmospheric phenomenon into rhythm, colour and movement. The lines gather, shift and bend across the surface, while an intense passage of yellow emerges through the darker field, evoking sunlight filtering through cloud and radiating into the surrounding sky.
The work draws on both the visual spectacle and the physical sensation of these moments — the unexpected warmth of sunlight reaching the face after a long period beneath a grey sky. Lightfall captures this brief transition, when the atmosphere changes and the world below is momentarily transformed by light.
