Reef Study I explores the relationship between colour, movement and repetition through a field of flowing drawn lines. Built gradually using archival pens, the work combines vibrant bands of colour that shift and blend across the surface, creating a sense of depth, rhythm and continuous motion.
The composition developed from a series of studies investigating how subtle changes in curvature can transform a flat surface into something more fluid and organic. As the lines expand, compress and drift across the paper, they begin to suggest underwater currents, shifting topographies and the intricate structures found within coral reefs.
Balancing structure with spontaneity, the work invites the eye to wander through layers of colour and movement, revealing new relationships and patterns over time.
