There’s something about a single flame that makes you stop and watch. As autumn settles in, leaves turn and evenings draw closer, the candle burning on my studio desk has become a small source of warmth and fascination. This drawing grew from those moments spent watching its shape shift.
Thousands of fine archival ink lines gather into a glowing form, with reds, oranges and yellows rising through cooler colours. Viewed from a distance, the individual lines begin to dissolve into light; move closer, and their intricate rhythms emerge. The drawing moves between those two experiences—the presence of the flame and the detail that gives it life.
I wanted to capture the calm of watching something that never quite stands still. A familiar, fleeting moment held on paper, carrying its warmth beyond the flame itself.
