Archival pen on 425gsm Saunders Waterford paper
A2 Portrait — 42 × 59.4 cm / 16.5 × 23.4 inches
Original artwork — one of one
Inspired by a moment of collective celebration, this drawing began with a fleeting glimpse of a supporter whose striped shirt recalled the iconic designs of Paul Smith. That brief association sparked a deeper exploration of colour, fashion, memory and British cultural identity.
Drawn entirely with archival pens, thousands of individual lines flow across the surface, converging and separating like voices joining together in song. Bands of colour weave across the page, creating rhythms and harmonies that echo the energy of a crowd united in a shared experience.
The title references the opening lyric of Wonderwall, the song that became the soundtrack to that memory. Like the song itself, the drawing is built from simple elements repeated over time, creating something larger than the sum of its parts. Each line retains its own identity while contributing to a collective whole.
Influenced by the vibrant striped palettes of British fashion and the emotional resonance of music, the work celebrates connection, optimism and those fleeting moments when individual voices become something greater together.
