Archival pen on 425gsm Saunders Waterford paper
A2 Portrait — 42 × 59.4 cm / 16.5 × 23.4 inches
Original artwork — one of one
Where Miracles Still Happen continues an ongoing study of submerged forms and the quiet transformations that occur beneath the surface. Inspired by shifting light across shells on the seabed, the work captures a moment that is both fleeting and eternal—where water, light, and form dissolve into a single, continuous rhythm.
Composed of meticulously drawn fine pen lines, the piece builds a fluid topography of movement. Waves of colour bend and refract across the surface, echoing the way sunlight moves through water—distorting and revealing textures below. The shells themselves are no longer fixed objects, but impressions—felt rather than seen—emerging through layers of luminous interference.
There is a sense of immersion here, as if looking not just at the sea, but into it. The lines act as both structure and current, guiding the eye through a landscape that is constantly shifting, never still. Subtle variations in tone and density create a quiet depth, suggesting the energy that exists beneath even the calmest surface.
At its core, the work reflects on perception—how light alters what we think we see, and how beauty often exists within those moments of distortion. It is a meditation on presence, observation, and the small, often overlooked miracles that occur in the natural world every day.
